Senior Litigation Specialist


A+ specialty carrier provides solutions for Excess and Surplus Lines Commercial Property and Casualty insurance coverage insuring unique or hard-to-place risks. Flexible policy terms and premium rates. Focus is small to medium Property and Casualty risks on both an admitted and a non-admitted basis.

Description / Responsibilities

Highly technical and complex role handling litigated national claims. Manages claims from inception to closure, including identification and investigation of coverage, liability and damage issues, determination and efficient execution of an appropriate plan of action, and prompt, economical file resolution. Reviews and sets up new loss assignments. Establishes appropriate initial loss and expense reserves. Regularly evaluates the file for adequacy, accuracy and adherence to reserving guidelines. Analyzes and interprets policy language in conjunction with specific loss facts to reach appropriate coverage decisions. Drafts frequent and complex coverage correspondence. Composes detailed correspondence to insureds, claimants, attorneys, agents and Regulatory agencies. “Paperless” environment.  Works closely with policyholders to deliver customer-focused, proactive claim handling and litigation management services. Utilizes specialized product and coverage knowledge in Construction, Excess/Umbrella, Miscellaneous Professional Liability, Intellectual Property, Liquor Liability, Farm & Ranch and additional products and coverages. Serves as a technical resource within the Department through mentoring and knowledge-sharing.


Twenty (20) years of insurance experience, with seven (7) to ten (10) years in claims handling and/or claims litigation in commercial casualty, Excess & Surplus lines claims strongly desired. Carrier background strongly preferred but will consider a combination of carrier, TPA, and law firm defense background. Degree preferred and will strongly consider attorneys interested in handling a claims litigation desk. Strong, professional verbal and written communication skills required. Intermediate knowledge of Windows environment, including Word, Excel and E-mail.
